Buck Recommends Netflix’s All Quiet on the Western Front
2 Nov 2022
What does it say about our culture that Netflix’s disturbing Jeffrey Dahmer series is the second most-watched in Netflix history?
Number one is still Stranger Things, a Clay fav.
As a child, nothing scared young Travis like the Unsolved Mysteries music.
Well, Buck couldn’t get through Dahmer, because he thought it was too dark, but he did like Netflix’s new take on All Quiet on the Western Front.
World War I was brutal, and this movie brings it to life, like another WWI movie, 1917, which is interesting, too.
We all get pretty used to hearing people say “things have never been worse” in America, but we know that’s not true. We held elections in the middle of the Civil War and World War II.
Netflix’s All Quiet on the Western Front is very visceral, very realistic. It’s a lot like what Saving Private Ryan did for WWII in the scene we all remember. Buck still vividly recalls being in the movie theater as a kid with his amazing mother for Saving Private Ryan and a lot of memorable war films.
History can be a settling influence in unsettling times because it provides needed perspective.
