Aide for NYC’s Jet-Skiing Mayor Robbed at Gunpoint
6 Jul 2022
BUCK: This is one of those things that you see and it’s just one incident. It’s just one news story, but it feels like it’s indicative of so much more that is going on, in this case in America’s largest city. Yesterday an aide to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who was scouting a location for a mayoral visit, was robbed at gunpoint. An aide to the new mayor of New York City — a mayor who was elected to clean up crime in this city, who was constantly pointing to his law enforcement credentials, which weren’t really as extensive as people were led to believe (that’s a whole other conversation) — as why he’s the guy to clean up New York, his aide was robbed, the mayor’s aide, at gunpoint, in broad daylight, Tuesday morning in Brooklyn, just yesterday. Clay, the city’s not cleaned up. That’s for sure.
CLAY: Did you see how New York City’s mayor spent July 4th?
BUCK: I’m assuming with celebrities taking selfies.
CLAY: I’m sure that was a part of it. He also was on shark patrol on a jet ski.
BUCK: Are you serious?
CLAY: Yes, which I don’t even begrudge him.
BUCK: Sharks are scary, to be fair.
CLAY: It actually sounds kind of fun, but I don’t know that it’s the most efficient way that the mayor could be spending his time on July 4th. I’m not kidding.
Looking like a pro after my first jet skiing lesson from an amazing instructor. Thinking about making this my periodic commute to work during the summer…

BUCK: It would be very effective in, like, Coney Island, and we have very effective anti-shark deterrent of just about a quarter mile of, like, sludge and trash that’s scattered around the beach, and so the sharks can’t go through that. Man, they see enough empty bottles and refuse they go, “Ugh! I’m gonna go somewhere else.”
CLAY: I’ll tell you this. They say that the East River is cleaner now than it has been at any point since the Civil War.
BUCK: That is actually true. That is actually true.
CLAY: I was reading this morning, there were dolphins sighted in the East River in the past couple of weeks.
BUCK: Look at you with all the NYC knowledge! I was going with the false stereotype, and actually they have cleaned up Hudson and East Rivers very dramatically.
