Hazmat Future on Ballot in NYC Mayoral Race
2 Nov 2021
BUCK: I should also note that in New York City — we haven’t spent much time on this today — there is a mayor’s race, too, which could be quite consequential because New York City has gone through a really rough period during covid and is in the midst of a showdown between the vaccine mandate Mayor de Blasio and public sector workers — police and fire notably — thousands and thousands of them who are not showing up for their jobs.
The mayor’s race in New York is likely to go to Eric Adams, African-American former police captain who is considered a moderate Democrat-ish on some of these issues. On police, though, he’s not openly avowedly anti-police. So it could be worse in New York City. Curtis Sliwa is the Republican candidate running against him. I’m gonna try to run over to my polling place when we’re done with the show here and, of course, I’ll probably have to double mask and wear goggles and all that ’cause it’s New York.
CLAY: You have to wear a hazmat suit in in New York now, right?
BUCK: New York is vaccine territory. The masks, they’re a little more lax on. Vegas, I’m still angry about. I love the people in Vegas. I’m still angry about the Vegas city government making you mask in a casino. That’s just wrong, man. That’s just wrong.
CLAY: Well, do you remember, I landed when I was going there? The masks were following me wherever I went. I landed in Vegas, got there with my wife, we walked around in the casinos. I was like, “Hey, do you want to get out and get some late dinner, walk around some?” We got there, like, 8:30. At midnight, they flipped the switch and you had to have a mask. Suddenly, everybody was patrolling the casinos making everybody put their masks on at midnight.
BUCK: Unbelievable.
CLAY: So from 8:30 to midnight, you were fine anywhere in the casinos, anywhere in Vegas, anywhere the shopping malls; then, boom! Everybody masked.
BUCK: What you don’t realize, Clay, was that the covid was waiting until midnight, and then at that moment that, it jumped out.
CLAY: It was gonna reveal itself.
BUCK: It’s like the aliens in Aliens. It comes out of the air ducts.
