BUCK: We’ve got Jen Psaki, who is a constant source of content here on the show. So, we are thankful for the Psaki bomb, as she is known among many. And here she is on the question that Clay and I have been pushing, bandying back and forth today. How is it possible that Biden really thinks he can get away with not going to the border? Clay, maybe we owe Joe Biden an apology. Maybe because Jen Psaki says that, like, maybe 13 years ago he saw the border at a distance from a car he was in?
PETER DOOCY: Following up on something else the president said last night, why did President Biden say he has been to the border?
JEN PSAKI: Well, Peter, as you may have seen, there’s been reporting that he did drive through the border when he was on the campaign trail in 2008. And he is certainly familiar with the fact and it stuck with him with the fact that in El Paso the border goes right through the center of town. But what the most important thing everyone should know and understand is that the president has worked these issues throughout his entire career.
BUCK: No, that’s not the most important thing. The most important thing is 2008, Clay, there you go.
CLAY: And it was a campaign journey. It wasn’t even in any kind of official capacity. Eight — 2008 — think about that — 13 years Joe Biden has not found the time to go to the border. Which is, if you look at all of the public polling, the number one issue that people trust him the least on. Why wouldn’t they trust him the least on it? Because he’s clearly pretending that issues at the border don’t exist by failing to actually go to the border. And for people out there who say, well, why does this matter, there are some people like, why does it matter if the president goes to the border?
Where you travel shows your focus, your emphasis, and your intent to solve problems and also it brings the entire cadre of White House media that are covering you that might otherwise ignore what’s going on at the border directly to the border so that they have to cover it. That is why this matters on such a substantive level whether or not he’s been there.
BUCK: And the Democrats ultimately know that this isn’t really just a risk in terms of the incompetence that it shows. The bigger threats for them when it comes to the border, the bigger concern is that enough Americans will pay attention and see what’s really happening that they will realize, this is the status quo that Democrats as a party, that apparatus of the left wants at our southern border. That moment, and that they’re lying when they say they don’t.
That’s what I think may become unforgivable and the point of maximum vulnerability going into the elections for Democrats, when people realize, hold on a second. You guys say illegal immigration is bad, but do you really think that it’s bad? Do you really want to it stop? I think the answer there is clearing going to be no.
