Sister Act: Whoopi Lectures Archbishop on Pelosi

BUCK: I think I mentioned this on the show yesterday. Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden are both Catholics in public life and they love to talk about — the Washington Post in particular, they’ll have some of their writers — oh, Biden, the devout Catholic! There’s nothing devout about Joe Biden. Let’s not pretend, folks. But more importantly, it’s one thing to sin as an individual.

We are all sinners in the Catholic faith, of course. It’s another thing to advocate for things that are directly in contravention in public, if you believe, to church policy. And this is not supposed to happen. And so the archbishop of the Bay Area has said that Nancy Pelosi cannot receive commune. Now, I have said I think this is too gentle. She should be excommunicated like the hedonistic, nonbeliever that she is.

But I don’t get to call the shots. And unfortunately, you know, this isn’t like popes a thousand years ago or whatever when they used to just say, “Yeah, you’re excommunicated.” So okay, fine. Nancy Pelosi is not gonna be excommunicated, but she is not supposed to be receive communion, which is a much lesser punishment. It’s really meant for someone to have reflection on it.

This is all to rub her nose over Pelosi saying that abortion all nine months of a pregnancy should be the law and she is hugely in favor of this and it’s grotesque and everybody knows it, at least everybody who has any moral compass whatsoever. And now they’re all jumping in to defend her, Clay. All over the place, the lib media saying, “Oh, Pelosi, what about the hypocrisy, what about people that sin or whatever?” Here is… Oh, we have Whoopi Goldberg weighing in on this one —

CLAY: Actually, this is well said.

BUCK: — with a great argument that she makes about-the archbishop. Play it.

BUCK: Clay, it actually is his job. (laughing) Just so everyone’s clear, he is the archbishop and this is within his purview.

CLAY: How much…? You and I spend hours every day to prepare ourselves to be able to talk to this audience in an intelligent fashion. We want to make sure that we get our facts right. We’re not perfect. Anybody who talks for three hours every day is going to make a great deal of errors. But we do try to get everything right. How much time do you think the girls on The View spend getting ready for that show, 10 minutes?

I would love to know, when I hear Joy Behar and when I hear Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin and I don’t even know who else is on that show, the amount of idiocy that they spew — and again, for people who haven’t done television, they probably have a staff of 20 that is designed, at least, to try to make sure — a production staff, that is — that they sound as good as they can. Do they spend 10 minutes getting ready for their show?

BUCK: The audience that they’re going for, that the women of The View are speaking to, it’s effectively the same people who react immediately to whatever Harry and Meghan Markle think about American politics. The most superficial, semiliterate view of American life and politics possible, that is what The View is going for as an audience. So in a sense the hosts are well suited to the job.

CLAY: And maybe the answer is that if they actually did research and said intelligent things, to your point, the audience is so dumb it wouldn’t respond to what they say. But every time we play a clip, even before I’ve heard it, as soon as I hear the subject matter, I’m like, “Oh, this is gonna be really bad.” If the subject matter was going to be, “What does hair dye cost?” I might be like, “You know what? Joy Behar, she’s been putting hair dye in for 50 years! They may know what that cost, what the hair appointment, difficulty on the Upper East Side. She may know that.” Anything else, I don’t even know what we could even consider any of these women to be experts on.
